Who

Hello, I am Atoc. I am a Research Fellow (Theoretical CS) at Dartmouth College. I am new to MRL, and I am proposing part-time research for the Monero Research Lab.

What

I am planning to work on the Bipartite Graph Matching project, and perhaps other research projects as this seems close to finished. The Bipartite Graph Matching project is basically an internal research project to see if we can trace Monero transactions with user behavior and statistical models. This project is searching for potential vulnerabilities so that they can be fixed in the future and make Monero more robust. See here for more information: https://github.com/b-g-goodell/mrl-skunkworks/tree/matching-mojojo

Pending Update...

Milestones

I am requesting to do research for Monero Research Lab at a rate of $32.5/hour, 15 hours a week (60 hours for the month).
30 XMR x $65 price = $1950 ---> $1950 / 60 hours = $32.5 / hour

  • @atoc and I have not spoken about this CCS request, although we spoke about assistance on the matching project. I don't want the community under the impression that I've given any sort of endorsement for this request.

    @atoc, at the bare minimum we need to know more information about your area of expertise. This project requires experience in graph theory, Python, stochastic processes, the Monero protocol, and the Zcash protocol.

    Since the matching project is nearing completion, I don't feel this is an appropriate usage of community funds, unless you happen to have experience in these. After all, donors already paid for the analysis through my CCS request. I suspect that there is less than 60 hours of work remaining.

    Perhaps there is another project you could assist with?

  • Hi @b-g-goodell I just removed your name and put a notice at the bottom that is pending update. I apologize, we talked a couple times over at #monero-research-lab and I was under the assumption that I would be assisting you here.

    I agree with you that there is less than 60 hours remaining. I was thinking I would help with finishing this project and then find another research project to work on.

    My background is in theoretical CS and I work on various AI models so I am familiar with graph theory, Python, and stochastic models. I am catching up on Monero protocol (reading ZtM), however I am not familiar with Zcash.

    I can assist with another project if that works better. Again, I apologize for taking so long to check this.

  • @atoc can you just confirm that this research is completely seperate from your work as a Research Fellow at Dartmouth? While i applaud the entry of new researchers into the MRL, i have a concern that you may be attempting to append a stiped that you are already receiving from your University, for the same work.

  • @midipoet sorry for the late response. I have been really busy this month. To clarify for you, I am not trying to receive additional funding for research I am doing as part of my fellowship as that is not crypto related so this funding is separate and would be the only source of funding for Monero research.

    Thanks for your comment about entry of new researchers into MRL. I think it is best for me to begin contributing to MRL without funding and if my progress is satisfying to the community, I will then hope to submit a proposal like this one.

  • @atoc thanks for the update. I'm going to close this, and you can reopen something similar in the future if you want to proceed down that line.
