Italian Mastering Monero

Introduction

Hello guys! I'm Bl5ckj5ck , I'm a member of the Monero community, I'm interested in tech and I'm a privacy advocate. This is my first CCS Proposal.

What is this proposal about?

This proposal is about translating Mastering Monero to Italian.

Who I Am?

I got first introduced to cryptocurrencies in general (Bitcoin) and got rapidly interested in both its functioning mechanisms and its practical implications. The deeper I was diving though, the clearer was to me the necessity to preserve the privacy of the financial activity of the users. This is when I discovered Monero. I started to explore its ethos, the community behind it and its mechanisms by reading multiple resources available online, including Mastering Monero. Thanks to its gradual approach to technical terms and new tech, this book made me soon fall in love with Monero. And still I am. I've translated the CakeWallet localization file and I'm currently working on translations on Weblate.

Why this proposal?

Mastering Monero is incredibly helpful. It enriches the frontend side of the Monero ecosystem. I'd like to add the Italian language so that the book can attract also those who wish to read it in their native language. Some relevant data on Italian: Italy is home to more than 62 million individuals and is ranked 23rd in population size when compared with other countries throughout the world. Besides Italy, which is home to about 60 million native speakers, Italian is spoken in many other countries around the world. It’s the official language of Italy, San Marino, Switzerland, the Vatican City and certain parts of Slovenia and Croatia. In the past, Italian was also an official language of Monaco, Albania and Malta.

The spread of Italian is a function of immigration and history. Wherever native speakers went, they not only brought with them their pots and pans, but also their language (and their hand gestures). Even discounting those who know the language of Versace, Gucci and Prada, Italian is one of the world’s major languages and has significant populations of native and non-native speakers in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Eritrea, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Libya, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mexico, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Tunisia, UAE, UK, the US and Venezuela.

With eight million Italian language learners, Italian is the sixth most studied language in the world. The number of Italian speakers can only grow over time. About 15.5 million Americans consider themselves Italian Americans. Approximately 710,000 speak Italian as the first language and use it at home. A majority of the Italian-speaking people are in Buffalo, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, and St Louis. It is the fifth most studied language in the United States. Italy is the third-largest economy in the euro zone. With 94 million tourists per year (2019) according with ENIT, Italy is the third most visited country in international tourism arrivals, with 217.7 million foreign visitors nights spent and a total of 432.6 million visitors. This is important because if we educate costumers and merchants on cryptocurrencies (especially Monero), theycould start to accept them as payment options. This would be ideal for those tourists who would like to pay with cryptocurrencies.

Milestones and Project Timeline

I've already completed the translation (non-definitive) of few chapters (1.md, 2.md) and added some minor corrections. You can inspect the work here and please tell me if you think that it is up to the quality standard or not. Translation is made through multiple reviews, updates and improvements on both syntax and semantics. No automatic translation. This is why this work will take me some time ~ 3 months.

Usually I distribute the work in hours/day. Mastering Monero has 37,151 words. I translate about 200 words per hour. By dividing this number by 200, this results in the amount of ~185 hours of work. I'm asking the total amount of 14 XMR distributed like this:

3 months of work. ~62 hours a month. I have an hourly rate of:

  • 0.0714 XMR/hrs * 185 hrs = 13,21 XMR

Rate per word:

  • 13,21 XMR / 37151 words = 0,000356 XMR/word

(Optional) Bonus for work executed : 0,79 XMR Total = 14 XMR

This proposal is meant to last 3 months and 1 week.

  • First milestone : ~62 hrs of work with ~12,400 translated words.
  • Second milestone : ~62 hrs of work with ~12,400 translated words.
  • Third mileston : ~62 hrs of work with ~12,400 translated words.

Thank you guys for your time! I'm glad to contribute to this great community, please let me know what you think about this proposal.
