monero-rs maintenance

Who

I'm silverpill, co-maintainer of monero-rpc Rust library and other libraries in the monero-rs group. Some know me as a developer of Mitra, a federated micro-blogging service with integrated Monero payments.

This is my first CCS.

What

This proposal is focused on a single task: migration of monero-rs packages to monero-oxide.

monero-oxide is an implementation of Monero protocol in Rust. monero-rs package group already has a package that provides similar functionality: monero. However, it is not actively developed and there is no one to update it for FCMP++. monero-oxide, on the other hand, will support this network upgrade.

Deprecation of monero and migration to monero-oxide will eliminate the split in the ecosystem, increase the adoption of monero-oxide, and help users of monero-rs packages migrate to a better maintained library.

Deliverables

• A wrapper for monero-oxide, either as a part of monero package or as a separate package (tracking issue: https://github.com/monero-rs/monero-rs/issues/235).
• monero-rpc updated to use the wrapper (tracking issue: https://github.com/monero-rs/monero-rpc-rs/issues/182). A new version of monero-rpc released on crates.io.
• monero-lws updated to use the wrapper (tracking issue: https://github.com/monero-rs/monero-lws/issues/54). A new version of monero-lws released on crates.io.

I expect this work to be completed within one month.

Funding

I propose to work for 40 USD per hour, 40 hours total. At 540 USD/XMR that would be 2.96 XMR.
