VOSTOEMISIO - Remake Introductory "What Is Monero?" Video

3 unresolved threads

Hi Everyone!

We have been approached and encouraged to make a proposal to refresh the introductory video on the website about "What is Monero?". The current information is outdated and incorrect, and the visuals could definitely be improved. This makes a lot of sense, as this is the first video people who visit the website will watch, and I'd strongly believe it has the most views of any Monero video.

We are ready to refresh the script, update the technical information to ensure accuracy, and make the branding cohesive with the other three animated explainer videos we have created through the Monero CCS, two of which have already been uploaded to the Getmonero website.

We are seeking 11 XMR to complete this proposal. As always, we will open-source our project materials after completion. We will work on this alongside finalizing the script for the FCMP video.

If anyone has any questions, please let us know.

Thank you!

  • i think adding this to your original proposal as a 2nd milestone would make more sense

    • When you say open source project materials, do you mean that you share script during production, or you have a dedicated git repository somewhere documenting everything?

We always share the script before production for anyone to comment. This mostly occurs in the Workgroup room on Matrix.

When I mentioned open-sourcing project materials, I was referring to our practice, as with the first Tail Emission video, of uploading our source files to a shared Proton drive for anyone to access and freely use. You can see an example here from the tail emission video: !387 (comment 22477)

    • I love the initiative but I feel that some of these are being rushed and the script is not as good as it can be as a result. While the newer animations are nicer, I like the pacing of the old(current) videos better. They are more clear and easier to understand.

Would be great if there was more community input at the script/mockup stage and I realize my own mistake of not being more involved when the previous videos were produced. Hopefully we can fix this.

Thanks @geonic for your feedback on the script process, I will keep it in mind. We can definitely bump it a few more times on Matrix and here to give everyone a chance to voice their opinions before finalizing scripts. But with that said, it’s always a bit tricky balancing different opinions, and we probably won't be able to please everyone.

Good news addressing your comment specifically on this proposal is that we don’t plan to change the storyboard or script too much. The main updates will be on the technical info and making the animations and visuals better.

    • Im confident in saying that there is enough positive sentiment to merge both your open proposals with some caveats:

      • both light / dark back ground videos (especially for the one to replace the getmonero video on the front page)
      • continue on the path of obtaining feedback from community at each stage of the process (scripts, storyboards etc)and gather consensus for choosing the voice over actor.

      Thoughts on the above?

I highly recommend combining the 2 proposals into 1 with 2 milestones (now that both have positive merge sentiment)

Sure, I'll revise our proposal by merging and extending the scope to include both dark and light backgrounds for both videos. We've done a good job of gathering the community's feedback so far IMO in our previous proposals, and we'll continue to do so by posting our script and storyboards on Matrix and in the repo.
